Made a total mess when depotting, but all the eyeshadows in this palette were meant to hit the pan anyway :P

I was cleaning my makeup drawer few days a while back, and noticed that I had multiple eyeshadows in similar shadows in various palettes. I started swatching them, noticed that even though some looked similar in the pan, they either swatched differently or I preferred the texture/pigmentation of one over the other. Knowing that I wouldn't be able to remember which ones I liked and which ones I didn't, I searched online for a perfect makeup palette to depot most of my eyeshadows. I wanted to have one palette where I put all my less used eyeshadows or less desired dupes in one palette, and one that I can grab on a daily basis and take with me when I go on some extended trips as I am a very indecisive human being who loves having options when it comes to eye makeups.

Initially I wanted Makeup Forever's empty palettes because I heard so many good things about them, but they were completely sold out in Sephora, so I went ahead and got my MAC Single Pro Palette($8). I will be purchasing the MAC Duo Pro Palette soon because I think that one would be perfect to put all of my less used eyeshadows for better storage.

Do I find the magnetization of this palette to be very strong? Not really, no. I ended up buying some adhesive magnetic sheets just to stick on to this palette. What I found weird was that Makeup Geek's eyeshadows just stick on this my palette like a glue whereas some of my MAC's Pro Pan Refill eyeshadows didn't and I had to attach some magnets to them as well... Also, this palette shuts strongly with a magnetic closure, but I feel much more comfortable carrying something that has a snap closure so that's something to keep in mind.

What do I love about this palette? Mainly that the packaging is sleek and that I can see what's inside the palette (unlike the Makeup Forever's Palettes or MAC's Duo Palette), which I can see being a huge plus to people who own many eyeshadows and need multiple palettes. I also like the fact that the price of the inserts for eyeshadows or blushes are quite reasonable ($2 each), and perhaps I'll get those if I accumulate enough eyeshadows from MAC.

How did I organize my palette? I know some people only put all of their MAC's eyeshadows and/or Makeup Geek's eyeshadows in this palette, or put all their Urban Decay Vice palettes or Naked serious or what not, but for me I wanted to use this palette as a way to organize my favorites/most used eyeshadows and some dupes that I couldn't quite decide which ones I liked more so that I can better experiment with the shades that I own.

Because my most used NARS Blush/Bronzer Duo in Orgasm & Laguna broke, I put them in two separate corners. Near Laguna, I put similar matte eyeshadows that I sometimes use as a bronzer, and from there organized my other favorite matte eyeshadows from Sonia Kashuk's Eye on Neutral 02 Matte palette. On the left, I organized shades from the lightest to the darkest, making sure that all the similar shades are next to each other so that I could test out the dupes in the future.

I did have to move and arrange my eyeshadows multiple times to fit all the ones I wanted in the palette in the order that I found intuition and pleasing to the eye. I ended up breaking many eyeshadows and wasting a lot of products in the process of depotting and moving them, but overall have no regrets!

Do you depot eyeshadows? Which empty palette is your favorite?

XOXO,

HaeMin

  1. Congrats on creating such a beautiful and well-organized palette!:) I wish I had enough blushes to justify the purchase of a palette, lol.
P.S. I never tried depotting eyeshadows, to be honest:) I bought most of them from MAC as refills for their palettes. It's true that they don't stick perfectly though, so I try not not shake it often, lol.

  2. We don't depot our eyeshadows, but seeing other bloggers do it makes us want to! It's so much more convenient to take out one big palette then little individual palettes when doing your makeup
