I am the kind of person who gets anxious when I am running low on products that I love, and one of the products that I always need a backup for is the NYX Micro Brow Pencil. Many Youtube beauty gurus talked about this product as a dupe for Anastasia Beverly Hill's Brow Wiz, and I must say that I agree that they are pretty similar (minus Anastasia's awesome spoolie). I have stopped using Brow Wiz because NYX Micro Brow is so much more affordable. (Plus because I draw my eyebrows on a daily basis--and I mean it when I say daily because even on those days when I look like a hot mess and refuse to go outside, I will STILL draw my brows.)

So the first NYX Micro Brow Pencil I purchased was in the color Brunette and I have been using it for about two months now--so I knew I needed extras ASAP and ran to Ulta. Ulta usually has buy one get one 50% off promotion, so I was able to snatch two of these for around $15 with tax (they are $9.99 each). I wasn't able to swatch these at the store, so I decided to buy this brow pencil in different shades to see what works best for me.

So here are the two new NYX Micro Brow Pencils to my collection, in Chocolate and Expresso

This brow pencil is very thin and it isn't intensely pigmented, making it a perfect choice for those looking for a brow pencil to outline their eyebrows. I either use Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade and a brown eyeshadow to fill my eyebrows and intensify the look more, but on lazy days or when I want the most natural look I just use this brow pencil alone.

Here are the swatches of NYX Micro Brow Pencil taken indoors with and without flash.

From these swatches you can see how precise and thin lines these micro brow pencils can be!

I actually expected Espresso, Chocolate and Brunette to be quite different in color, but I must say that they are pretty much the same thing. I imagined Espresso to be darker, but it is actually very similar to Brunette. Brunette has a slight reddish undertone to it when compared to Espresso. Chocolate is the lightest and warmest of these three.

I will probably not notice the difference especially on my black brows. Plus, I mainly use these to outline my eyebrows before filling my brows with eyeshadows and brow gel, so these three colors all work well for me and don't differ much. So if you are debating among these three shades, I'd say pick whatever your heart desires!

Overall, I would highly recommend NYX Micro Brow Pencil and I have my fingers crossed that Ulta never stops the buy one get one 50% off promotion for this gem!

XOXO,

HaeMin

  3. Dupe for Anastasia Brow Wiz? Yes, PLEASE. Considering that on days where I don't wear makeup at all, I go for brows, I think good brow products is always something I'm on the lookout for. I'll definitely have to try this out. Thank you for sharing, Hae! x

  4. I recently picked up Chocolate and it's perfect even though I do agree that Expresso, Chocolate and Brunette don't have much differences in shades. I use Chocolate with Essence Make Me Brow and they are perfection for my brows!

    1. Depends on what you prefer and your hair color. Chocolate has a more reddish undertone and is lighter than espresso!
