I have been wanting Natasha Denona's eyeshadow palettes for like the longest time, and I was so glad to hear that Natasha Denona is now available in Sephora. And so I did it - I splurged majorly on this palette and I wasn't even able to wait until Sephora's 20% off sale (though it was during 4x points for VIB Rouge event so I somehow can justify myself?).

Anyhow, the one that I got was Natasha Denona's Purple-Blue Eyeshadow Palette 28 and this baby costs...239 whooping dollars. There is another one that is leaning more Green-Brown, another one that includes 10 of her eyeshadows for $95 (will be reviewed soon), and another one that has 5 eyeshadows ($48).

When I first opened this palette, I gasped--I could not believe what I was seeing--it seemed too pretty to be true. And to be super honest, when I am feeling down I literally pick up this eyeshadow palette and just stare at it. Looking at this reminds me that the world is a better place and that there are so much beautiful things to look forward to. Is that weird? But seriously, this is THAT pretty.

Although I do think the packaging is nice and sturdy, it isn't a metal or plastic but rather is a cushy foam like exterior. Not a fan of that as I can imagine this palette getting my fingernail marks and getting dirty super easily. The white dots are magnets and those keep the palette shut.

And as you can see, I am all about pinks and purples when it comes to eyeshadows, so naturally I was drawn to this thing. And the blues in this palette are also amazing--I actually found them to be quite wearable!

Overall, I would say that some of these super metallic / foiled eyeshadows swatch beautifully and apply very easily on the eyes. However, many lighter shades are not as pigmented when swatched and when applied on the eyes. Also, the matte eyeshadows are not as pigmented as I would like them to be, especially if you look at the blues. That is my biggest problem with this palette especially because there are not that many matte eyeshadows to begin with and none that I would reach for as a transition color. All of these eyeshadows feel very soft and buttery though, and the pigmentation of some eyeshadows here are just insane.

With primer, these do swatch better of course and you can add the intensity. These do last longer with primer too, but I find them to be not as long-wearing without a primer.

I am being picky here because I paid $239 + tax on this thing. Yes it contains 28 eyeshadows and each is 0.08oz which is bigger than MAC single eyeshadows, and yes it boils down to $8.5 per eyeshadow, and yes it is made in Italy so it may not be fair to compare it to other huge palettes that are made in China. But I did have high expectation for this palette and although I was overall very impressed by most of the colors (especially the shimmers) in this palette, I can see how some people may become dissatisfied, especially if the colors you have been really wanting are the very ones that are underperforming.

This could have been the best palette ever for me if it did have one or two transition colors and one very dark color, because then I would not mind carrying this thing with me when I am traveling (I do like to carry a large palette with me so that I know I have my options). However, as of this moment, I would have to carry at least my matte eyeshadow collection to give me peace of mind.

So here are the swatches of the entire Natasha Denona Purple-Blue Eyeshadow Palette 28, from the right side to the left. These are all finger swatches with no primer underneath.

I've been playing with this palette for a while, and I did create couple of looks with it which I will show you in subsequent blog posts as well. But here is the one that I like the most, and it is using 60M Golden Rose (which is so similar to my favorite MAC Pigment in Rose - reviewed here - which gives me life!). I actually need 60M Golden Rose in singles as I love the pressed eyeshadows more than pigments, and it is a gorgeous gorgeous freaking amazing color!

For this makeup, I applied that 60M Golden Rose all over the lid and then used 63M Oxide on the inner and outer crease like a halo effect. Afterwards, I deepened that halo a bit more using 51M Rose Wood. On the inner corners and the lower lashline, I have on 52M Golden Beige and a mixture of 60M Golden Rose and 51M Rose Wood.

I have MAC Cosmo on my lips.

If after reading this blogpost you think, "okay I still feel like I need some of these colors because these metallic/shimmers look freaking gorgeous, but since this palette is lacking neutral transition shades, I don't think I need this entire palette", then I highly recommend you try Natasha Dedona Eyeshadow Palette 5 ($48) with 5 eyeshadows in it, as the name suggests. I am currently debating between #2, #4, and #8, and I'll probably get one or two and fingers crossed I can wait until Sephora's 20% off event!

What are your thoughts on this palette? Please share!

XOXO,

HaeMin
