For the longest time, my usual brow routine involved Nyx micro brow pencil (reviewed here) and Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade (reviewed here), both in the color chocolate. I liked the results I got but did not like how these products actually transferred on to my hair and to my skin, making the patchy bare parts lighter than the parts where I actually have some brow hair. This made it difficult for me to get a very natural looking brow without going too dark. So I caved in and got a brow pencil that everyone in Korea seems to be raving about -- Shu Uemura Hard Formula Brow Pencil ($23). Because I have black roots, I debated between the color Seal Brown and Stone Gray, but since Seal Brown was something that everyone was raving about, I decided to fall into the hype and test it out.

As you can see from the photo below, mine arrived without the pencil sharpened into the sword shape. If you buy this at a Shu Uemura store, you can get your brow pencil sharpened into the sword shape. Because there was no Shu Uemura store near where I live, I decided to check out some YouTube videos and after about 20 minutes of ever so carefully carving out the shape, I managed to get a thin and flat tip eyebrow pencil.

When I showed this picture to my friend, she said I could work at the Shu Uemura counter haha. But seriously, I was really nervous about doing this on my own as I owned another brow pencil similar to this one and broke the whole thing while sharpening as I wasn't careful enough. This time I made sure that both sides were equally balanced while sharpening, and carved out one thin layer at a time. This inconvenience to get my brow pencil sharpened is probably what makes the biggest and actually the only con of this brow pencil, and was the reason why I did not purchase this sooner.

However, as this before & after photo can show you, this brow pencil is LIFE! I cannot say enough good things about this product because it is purely magical. It only transfers on to my skin, such that I can just darken the bare spots without making the hairs too dark. The sword shape also makes it very easy to go into the front corners of the brows and draw some natural strokes. This photo actually shows the result I got with this brow pencil the very FIRST time I used it, so aside from the whole sharpening deal, I find this brow pencil to be that "brow pencil for dummies" type as it is so easy to use.

So nowadays, I still do use the mixture of Nyx Micro Brow Pencil and Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade when I am going for a more smokey look with very defined and dark eyebrows. But for normal daily brows I just use this Shu Uemura Hard Formula and with it I can draw this natural looking brows in less than a minute.

What products do you use to draw and fill in your brows? Please share!

XOXO,

HaeMin
