MY PERSONAL FAVORITE MOM JEANS

SHOP THIS POST

There seems to be a lot of hate around mom jeans, but honestly I am ever so grateful that it is back in trend. And here's why: I have saddlebag thighs and a relatively narrow waist, meaning most of the times I had to buy jeans that were too large around my waist (like there would be enough gap to put at least two fists) but too tight around the upper thigh area. Such fit made many jeans slid too much whenever I sat, unless I opted for a high-waisted ones.

So I was very pleasantly surprised to see that the new "mom jeans" are more tapered and more cropped around the ankles rather than being boxy and straight--or at least among those that were available, such designs were what I was drawn to. These mom jeans also did not made me look like I was wearing diapers, but were designed to cinch in around the waist. I did not want my mom jeans with any of that distressed denim look so as to make it match well with almost any outfit, look less like boyfriend jeans, and be more in line with the 90's vibe. And the perfect one for me was from Topshop, and I honestly would love to get one in every single color.

If you are looking for a perfect pair of mom jeans and if you like me have a hard time finding a pair of jeans that fit your waist and your thighs and make your saddlebags look less, if not at all prominent, my recommendation would be to first find those that have reviewers (particularly reviewers who state they are a couple of sizes smaller than you are) saying that it is too baggy around the thighs because chances are, it will not be that baggy for me or for you.

As for the sizing, take note that Topshop mom jeans and many mom jeans out in the market have zero stretch in them, although they do stretch out just a bit with wear. I personally prefer it this way because I find such fabric to really cinch everything in and tone those legs, as long as you are not going for a boxy fit. Usually 4 even sometimes 2 fits well around my waist, but I often had to size up to 6 or 8 for my thighs, and for this pair of mom jeans I got a size 8 and it fits perfectly snug. So if you want a more relaxed fit, I recommend that you go up or two in sizes! I am also 5'3'' and petite was the most perfect length as I could roll it up for more of that cropped look or roll it down to make it look more fitted. The longer the length and the more you would have to roll it up for a slight cropped look, which could make your legs to look shorter and chubbier, and the more relaxed mom jeans look around the ankles, the more 90's and retro your outfit will look (that could be what you are going for, but I wanted something that didn't scream 90's).

It's great to know that with each trend there seems to be more items that intentionally or not make women of many shapes and sizes find their perfect fit. Anyhow I hope you find a perfect pair of mom jeans that fit your body like a glove and look ever so flattering on you!

XOXO,
HaeMin
